Europe must provide help and assistance in every form to earthquake-hit Turkiye and Syria without delay, an MEP of ruling Fidesz said on Tuesday, adding that those countries can count on Hungary’s continued help.
Hungary was among the first to send rescue teams and provide medical assistance to affected regions, Kinga Gál said in a statement. The Hungarian teams with a staff of 167 and 29 search dogs have saved more than 30 survivors in Türkiye, she said. She noted that Hungary was the only country in Europe also providing help in Syria. The Hungarian Maltese Charity has set up mobile clinics in that country with support of the government’s Hungary Helps aid programme, the MEP said.
Meanwhile, the Maltese Charity announced on Tuesday that it is sending 14 tonnes of aid containing durable food, hygienic supplies, blankets, warm clothes and medical equipment to Turkiye’s Hatay region. Their four-member team is also travelling to Turkiye to help preparations for a long-term reconstruction programme.
